Mentoring (hourly or retainer) and Studio Visit Info

VIRTUAL - ZOOM MENTORING

Option #1: Hourly: (single visits)

$80.00 (½ hour) or $145.00 (1 hour)

-  This option is good for technical questions. We can share screens. If you prefer, we can also talk by phone. 

-  First-time meetings are a minimum of an hour: ½ hour sessions can follow.

Option #2: ZOOM MENTORING: (monthly retainer-minimum 6 months)

All retainer and residency artists start with an Artist-to-Artist mentoring initial consultation which is $475. This is mandatory for me to look at your work, your writing and anything else that you want me to review. I generally develop a list of deep questions for you, which takes 1-2 weeks for me to compile. You then reply with the answers, which can take as long as you need. I then work on my comments that we review together during a one-hour scheduled phone conversation. This implements how we move forward. 

Mentoring thereafter is invoiced at a rate of $100 an hour with a 3-hour minimum per month. Average months generally run around $400. If I am giving you painting demos that require prep time, working on your website, statement, grant intent or exhibition catalogue essays or researching, it tends to run longer. 

Starting 2025- I am currently accepting no more than 6 people on retainer at a time so that I can focus on my own practice. It’s very individualized. Email me for availablilty. Sometimes people take a break by moving to hourly sessions only as needed. It is my goal to have you be self sufficient.

Non-VIRTUAL STUDIO VISITS

Option #1- I visit you:

$150 an hour plus expenses (gas, flights, train tickets, Uber, taxi, parking). I often do studio visits when I am traveling out of state. If I am already in your territory for another purpose, you will only be invoiced for local travel expenses and travel time @$35 an hour plus our working time together.

Retainer client studio visits are invoiced at the regular retainer rate, plus travel time and expenses.

Option #2- You visit me:

I welcome one on one sessions in my New Haven, CT studio. I am offering half day and full day hands on technique working, learning and discussion sessions. These are helpful if you want to hone in on a specific technique or concept, if you are a retainer and/or virtual client and you want to do an “in-person” day.

$145 an hour including any materials prep time. Standard set up time, prior to your arrival, is included. Retainer client in-my-studio visits are invoiced at the regular retainer rate, plus prep time and materials if applicable.

There are plenty of Air B&Bs and hotels near Yale University near my studio. Also I’m a quick Uber from Union Station (2 hours from Grand Central on MTA).

Group Crits:

Starting 2025, I am no longer holding group crits due to my studio filling with my own work. If you are an abstract artist, you may be a good candidate for my Master Abstraction Workshop in Residence at the Studios of Mass MoCA. Learn more about it here.

Note: although my practice involves all natural, sustainable materials, I am working with people in ALL mediums and all processes (not just painting). Our work together helps you to define the mediums that follow what you want to communicate and how it should happen based on authenticity.
